Thanksgiving day is the name of the national holiday in America. It falls on the last Thursday in November, which day was appointed by President Lincoln in 1864 It originated in New England, where the colonists instituted a ciay of thanksgiving after their first harvest in 1621. At the time of the Revolution, Congress recommended a National Thanksgiving Day, and in 1817 it was adopted as an annual custom in New Yoik, and thence spread to other States.
