Peter \\ hite led Logan Fraser, Glenlalce, Harvest Bingen and Oinadora in the early stages. Glenlake moved up along the back and took charge at the six furlongs post. Cyone, Sandy Pointer and Kate Logan then joined -the next bunch. Glenlake stalled off Sandy Pointer by three lengths. • Cyone, easing up at the finish, was six lengths away, with Kate Logan and Oinadora next. 1 he Avoness-Great Harvester bracket was best backed in the Longbeach Handicap, for which thirty-one trotters started. Golden Girl led at the start, but soon broke, leaving Elando in front. Gemlight took charge after going two furlongs, with Rustle next, while Great Harvester was third. At the end of six furlongs the race was a procession. Gemlight beating Rustle by three lengths, with Great Harvester eight lengths a.way and Deceitful fourth. •, A good' field of twenty-three started in the Ashburton County Handicap. \\ rackler, Athalone, Harvest Child and Travis Axworthy were fanoied in that order. Lingfield and Maiwhariti led Evelyn Locanda and Genuine in .the early stages and at the end of half a mile Travis Axworthy joined in. There was little change till half a mile from home, where Travis Axworthy broke, while Athalone . and Wrackler were handy at this stage. Wrackler joined the. front lot'in the straight, but Lingfield beat him by half a length. Maiwhariti was two lengths away, with Evelyn Locanda, Athalone and Genuine next. Reylet and Aquillan were scratched for the New Zealand Sapling Stakes, leaving eight starters. Grand Canyon, Ngingo Ngingo and Purser were backed in that order. John Jinks took charge at the start and lead past the stand from King's Cup, Ngingo Ngingo, Rokena, and Flying Prince, with Grand Canyon a few lengths away and Purser tailed off after a bad start. Ngingo Ngingo joined the leader at the six furlongs post and John Jinks had only a slight advantage at the entrance to the straight where Real Huon and Flying Prince were handy. A great finish saw*John Jinks beat Real Huon by a short length. Ngingo Ngingo was half a length away, with Flying Prince a length further Arikitoa and Lady Cello disputed favouritism for the Acton Handicap. Aleron led for two furlongs, when Venarc took charge, followed by Lady Cello, Aleron and Arikitoa. With six furlongs gone-, Arikitoa took charge, and. was followed to the straight by Lady Cello and Wild V'ovage, with Morning Sun closing up. Arikitoa stopped in the straight, and Lady Cello beat Morning Sun by three lengtis. Wild Voyage was ‘five • lengthy away with Arikitoa and Exclusive next. Tot Logan and All Peters were popular picks for the Stewards’ Handicap. Tot Logan led for a furlong, when Oval took charge, with Midland also handy, followed by Repute and New Metford. At the mile post Midland ran to the front with Oval, Repute, and New Metford handy. Midland held his place and beat Oval by two lengths. Repute was six lengths away a neck in front of Tot Logan, with New Methford next Great Logan was a hot favourite for the Winter Handicap, with Lindbergh and Linkman the best backed of the others. Return Voyage led Vikota, Avenger, Great Logan and Kotuku Jack in the early stages. Vikota was beaten at the end of half a mile, where Baynut and Linkman joined the front lot. Return Voyage led Baynut, Linkman, and Great Logan round the home turn. In a good finish Great Logan beat Linkman by a neck. Maiwharaiti was three lengths away, with Grey Cloud and Downcast next. HORSE DROPPED DEAD. Near the finish of the Longbeach Handicap, Bon Elect dropped dead. His driver, G. S. Smith, was unhurt. RICCARTON NOTES. Saturday. Lord Ranald (W. Scobie), who is to race in steeplechase events at the South Canterbury meeting, gave a splendid exhibition in a round of the country at Riccarton this morning. Gay Jim (G. Salt) and Zeus (E.
