LATE WIRELESS.

“AERIAL.”

BY

Reception Notes. It is rather curious that statijn 2BL Sydney, should eclipse all other Aus tralian stations at present in regard to strength of signals as received in Christ church between 5.30 and 7.30 nightly Heard last evening at G o’clock, 2BL was clearer and steadier than 2YA That, perhaps, is not so surprising, see ing that the Wellington station indulp ed in quite a large amount of fadiiv and distortion all evening. Static wr> not at all troublesome on 2BL. Reception of the YA concerts la;-. 411 the evening was again somewhat patchy. At times volume from station: w’ould be all that was necessary, but or the whole there was too much fading and static to induce one to stay with any station other than 3YA for anlength of time. There was considerable interference with reception by the it trusion cf the "roarer” and, a worse 0! fender, by a brass-lunged Morser wh nearly killed reception several tiir; during the evening The prospects are that recepli during the week-end will be only fai. good. Mr Herman Lee at 3YA. Further augmenting the radio vaudeville programme at 3YA this evening will be Mr Norman Lee, of J. C. Wi liamson’s ‘‘The Wrecker” company. Mr Lee will give a twenty minutes’ entertainment of popular vocal number? PCJ Heard this Morning. T.P.S. reports reception of PCJ, Holland, this morning. He writes:— ** I heard several records, then a special call to Mr , a passenger on board the New Amsterdam, bound for New York. ‘Hello Mr ! 1 see you sit ting in your room with your short-wave set tuned in to PCJ. I hope you and the passengers are enjoying our pro gramme. On Tuesday next, at 2230 G.M.T., we will be broadcasting a special programme for Rio ‘ Janeiro, w’hen we hope you will be able to pick us up on board the New Amsterdam ' Ihe announcer spoke quite a lot in Dutch. Then, before they closed down at 7.50 a.m., another speaker came t« the microphone and said: ‘Hello, every body of the English speaking people This is PCJ, Holland. We hope you have received our station satisfactorily and we would be pleased if you will drop us a line, when you can find time He also stated that they were closing down until midnight G.M.T., w hen the> would be on the air again specially foi ‘our radio friends in Australia and New Zealand.’ They will be on the ai 11.30 a.m. to-day, also next Wednesday 10 a.m. our time. GSSW was also ver fair this morning.” A Message From Byrd. Readers will find elsewhere in to day’s “Star” a copy of a message from Commander Bvrd, now in the Ant arctic, to the Radio Broadcasting Com pany. It is rather thrilling to think that, while w’e are listening-in to 2YA Commander Byrd and the members ol his expedition share 2YA’s programme with us, and with only a fraction—an infinitesimal one at that—of a second’s difference in the time of reception.
