IMPOSING DISPLAY FOR THANKSGIVING DAY.

KING AND QUEEN TO . DRIVE IN STATE. (L.<i Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, May 25. Provisional arrangements for the thanksgiving service for the King’s recovery from his recent illness promise an imposing display on June 16, typical of traditional British pageantry. Their Majesties will drive in state along the Mall and Whitehall to the Abbey, returning by the same route. Landaus -will be used if the weather is fine, otherwise the closed gilt carriages will be employed. Six horses, camparisoned in gold harness with scar-let-coated postillions as attendants, will draw their Majesties’ carriage, which will be accompanied by footmen in the Royal scarlet and gold livery. Four horses will be attached to each carriage of the suite. An escort of Life Guards with their Standard will precede and follow’ their Majesties, who will drive last in the procession to the Abbey, and head the returning procession to Buckingham Palace. It is understood that the Prince of Wales, and all the Royal Family, will probably attend. The Archbishop of Canterbury and the Dean of Westminster will conduct the service, which will be of the simplest character, and will be broadcast. No tickets will be issued, except for a restricted official list, so that all classes will have an opportunity of attending. The hymns w T ill include: “All People That On Earth Do Dwell,” and “ Praise My Soul O King of Heaven,” which is the King’s choice. The National Anthem w T ill be sung on their Majesties’ arrival, and the Te Deum at the end of the service. The form of service will be announced in time to enable its use throughout the Empire. A statement from Buckingham Palace says: “ The King, anxious to ftylfil the hope expressed in his Majesty’s recent message, has decided to attend Westminster Abbey on June 16, and to render thanks to Almighty God for his recovery. His Majesty trusts his people will join with him therein, on the same day, at their usual places of worship. The thank-offerings of the congregation might appropriately be devoted to the hospitals.”—Australian Press Association —United Service. At Westminster Cathedral. LONDON, May 25. A High Mass will be offered at Westminster Cathedral in connection with the King’s thanksgiving service. Cardinal Bourne will assist at the service which will conclude with the Te Deurn. —Australian Press Association.
