CANTERBURY WOMEN'S CLUB.
The decorations which are always a feature at the Canterbury Women’s Club were even more beautiful than usual on Saturday night when an entertainment of considerable merit, arranged by Mrs Felton and Miss Grand, was given to a large audience of members. Wide bowls of tawny shaded chrysanthemums decorated the stage and reception room and a crystal bowl of exquisite roses had the place of honour on the table. The following was the programme given:—Pianoforte solo, (a) Invitajtion to the Waltz, (b) “Minuet” (Paderewski), Miss Wheatley; song, (a) selected, (b) selected, Mrs Andrews; recitation, (a) “ The Hound of Heaven/' (b) selected, Mrs Felton; duet (in character), “To a Miniature,” Shirley Cook and Joan O’Niel; song, “A Light Song,” Shirley Cook; recitation, (a) selected, (b) selected, Miss Tui Northey; song, (a) “ June, the Piper,” (b) selected. Miss Stewart; dance, (a) “Russian,” (b) selected. Miss Arline Power; “The Silver Candlesticks ” —Cast of characters: The Bishop, Miss Grand; the Convict, Airs Graham; Personae (the Bishop’s sister, a widow), Mrs Couzins; Marie, Mrs Harris; Sergeant of Gendarmes, Mrs Millar. Airs Felton wore a frock of navy blue taffeta with fawn embroideries and a vest of fawn georgette. Miss Grand’s gown was of deep pervenche blue silk velvet and georgette. Following the programme supper was served, and Mrs Flesher, the president, on behalf of the members, thanked the hostess and performers for a most enjoyable evening.
