The engagement is announced of Dora, only daughter of Mr and the late Mrs E. H. Seager, Bishop Street, to Sandeman Chambers, youngest son of the late Mr George Harris and of Mrs Harris, “ Kohanga,” Lower Riccarton. Miss' Seager is leaving on Tuesday with her father to visit her brother in Canada.

Our London correspondent writes: — Airs IT. G. Lyttle, of Christchurch, who is at present staying in one of the suburbs of London, had a most delightful trip to England, via Suez. She is here until October, and in the meantime intends enjoying herself visiting historical and beauty spots of England. Mrs Lyttle also intends visiting the Continent, and about Arxgust hopes to visit Scotland. The Addington Tennis Club held a very successful dance in the Selwyn Street Hall on Wednesday night, about 150 people attending. A Monte Carlo competition, for a prize presented by Mrs A. S. Cooper, was won by Miss F. Bennett. A set of lancers was a novelty which was thoroughly appreciated. The committee were: Misses 1. Hoggan and Y. Jack, Mrs E. Adams, Messrs T. Clemens, I. Mackenzie, D. Silvester and J. K. Burtt. Miss Moores orchestra supplied the music.

At their second recital in the Caledonian Hall on Wednesday night, the Misses Izard enraptured their audience by their playing of the violin and ’cello. Miss Margaret Izard’s frock was of oyster tinted silk figured net over a pink silk slip, made with two flounces. dipping at the back and bound with bias folds. An enjoyable evening was spent recently at the residence of Air and Airs W. T. Kelly, Garland’s Road, Opawa, the occasion being the coming-of-age of their eldest son, Harry. Alusical items were rendered by Aliss M. Clements and Aliss E. Dephoff. and Air D. Brown contributed conjuring tricks. Competitions were won by Airs Al’Alister, Aliss Jean Greaves, Mr R. Al’Alister and Air D. Brown. Supper was set in the dining-room, after which Air W. Kelly congratulated his son on attaining his majority, and presented him with the customary key. Air IT. Aliss Olivia Spencer-Bower (Fendalton) left Wellington by the Rimutaka for England, where she will study for two years at the Slade School of Art. Aliss Alaberley Beadel, Aliss Betty Cotterill, Mrs A. L. Tucker, Aliss Edna White-Parsons and Aliss Barbara Clayden, members of the Christchurch Ladies’ Golf Club, are going to Timaru on May 13 to play a match the next day with the Timaru Ladies’ Club for the Boyle Cup. On Tuesday evening, the Willowby Hall was packed to its utmost when the Aliniature Rifle Club held its annual ball. The hall was prettily decorated with coloured streamers. Aluch credit is due to the committee for the success of the evening. Alusic was supplied by Alacdonald’s Orchestra, while extras were played by Air Beckley and Mr IT. Alacdonald. Aliss Alabel Pooley, who has been an esteemed member of the “ Lyttelton Times ” Company’s staff for the last nine years, was the recipient of a handsome ivory toilet set on the occasion of her resigning to enter a new avenue of business. The presentation was made by Mr James Stout, manager of the printing department, who expressed on behalf of the management and staff their regret at losing such a popular assistant, and their very best wishes for her future success.
