HARRIERS.

NEWS AND NOTES. The Christchurch Club’s run last week was held from the Racecourse Hotel, Riccarton, when there was an attendance of thirty-six. The trail layers, E. Knight and R. M’Kee, set a good course of about five miles. The field was divided into three packs, a feature being the excellent manner in which the packs were kept under control. In the slow pack’s run in, R. F. Ilvde and N. Tideman were first and .second respectively. The intermediate packs run-in resulted in J. Clapshaw and E. 11. Shirley dead heating for first place. J. G. Barnes had his first run with the club, and shewed splendid form. lie won the fast pack’s run in. with J. D. Pascoe, who also went well, a good second.

Kaiapoi Club. Last Saturday twenty-three members of the Kaiapoi Club were the guests of Mr and Mrs W. Kane, Peraki Street, Kaiapoi. The trail-layers were S. Phillips and A. Lozer. who led the pack over a good six mile course. The pack was kept well all the way and a run in was held over the last quarter of a mile, when C. Gordon was first, closely followed by F. Brown, R. Taplin and A. Clarke. Mr and Mrs Kane entertained the runners at afternoon tea. Baptist Club. Nineteen members turned out last Saturday for a run from Thames Street, St Albans. The trail-layers were F. Jenkins and W. Mathews, who laid a course north as far the the Northcote Settlement, and then east and south for a good six miles. A. Park, of the fast pack, has started the season in good trim, and the only member who could keep him company on Saturday w r as R. S. Odell. These two were first and second respectively, while J. Walker, an improving runner, was first of the slow pack.

The club should soon find it advisable to start running in three packs, for several runners, notably J. Walker, D. M’Cullough, and W. Eagle (the last two being new harriers), are clearly too fast for slow pack work.

Presbyterian Club. Last Saturday’s run was held at South Brighton. There were twentythree runners. The trail-layers were J. Mosley and L. Broughton, who led the pack along the beach to Central Brighton, over the tramway bridge, then across country to the Pleasant Point bridge and back to the starting point. There was only one pack, and, due to the efforts of three efficient pace-makers, the men kept well together and an enjoyable run resulted. In the run-in Robertson was first, with J. Watts second.

At a meeting of the committee after the run it was decided to hold the club social his year at St Andrew’s Church on Friday, June 7.

The Timaru Club will hold its open ing run to-morrow at Caroline Bay.
