FAVOURITE BEATEN IN AUCKLAND CUP.

(Special to the “ Star.”) AUCKLAND, December 26. Wet weather adversely affected the opening of the Auckland Racing Club's summer meeting at Ellerslie to-day. As a result of the rain, the track was soft, but there was some fine racing. Corinax wen the Auckland Cup after a great struggle with Laughing Prince, and Nancy Lee took the Railway Handicap. Sixteen started in the Queen's Plate. Cashier being over twice as well backed as the second choice. Gold Money, with Tcheka at a good price. The start was uneven. Big Bertha and Gold Money getting away badly. Tcheka and Amor led early but vrith three furlongs covered, Lido took charge. Lido led into the straight from Tcheka. Cashier, Gold Money. Kinross and Amor. Gold Money and Tcheka singled out inside the distance and in a hot finish, Tcheka won by a head. Lido was a fair third and Amor fourth. The next to finish were Kinross and Mod-
