The Lyttelton Borough Council has been authorised to raise a loan of £BOOO, to be known as the Diamond Harbour repayment loan. Interest will be at 5* per cent, with a sinking fund payment of 3 per cent per annum. The term of the loan is twenty years. The death is announced of Harry Brett, the old Sussex cricketer, sayf a London cable. He was latterly well known as a test match umpire. He was sixty-three years of age.—Australian Press Association. Among local bod} r loans recently authorised were the following:—Akaroa County Council, £IOO for workers’ dwelling; Oxford County Council, £I4BO for workers’ dwellings; Heathcote County Council, £6OO for the Avoca Valley water supply; and Geraldine County River Board, £3OO for the Waihi River district works.
