The summer meeting of the Australian Jockey Club attracted an attendance of 32,000 people. The principal event resulted as follows: VILLIERS HANDICAP, Of 1500 sovs. One mile. REONUI, Mr J. Carey’s b c by Magpie—Earloona, 4yrs, 8.8 .... 3 Fifteen horses started. Thelma's Fortune made most of the running from Don Moon, Black Duchess. Habashon, Reonui and Genuine. Coming to the turn Habashon took .charge, but at the distance Reonui went to the front and won comfortably by two lengths, with half a length between second and third horsfes. Don Moon and Black Duchess were together fourth. Time—lmin 37!sec.

In the second division of the Trial Handicap, the New Zealand-bred three-

year-old Gesto (Psychology—Valley Rose), carried 8.2 and won from Lord Romeo 8.7 and Sir Trasia 7.11. There were fifteen starters and Gesto won by a length and a half, the time for the six furlongs being lmin 14isec.

AWAPUNI GALLOPS. Per Press Association. PALMERSTON N., December 24. Although it was expected that many candidates would have their windingup gallops this morning the work at Awapuni did not attain the interest expected. The grass tracks promise to be hard on the day and practically all the gallops were carried out on the plough this morning. Teremoana had Blimp as a companion over seven furlongs, run in lmin 42sec, the latter being under a hard pull. Callanmore jumped off at the four furlong post to run home in 52sec. Glena Bay and Clarinda left seven furlongs behind in lmin 37sec, after doing the first furlong in 15sec. Clarinda appeared to be going the better at the finish.

Atareria was clear of Disrank at the end of half a mile. No time was taken.

Keddar, who had' approximately a stone the best of the weights, cleared away from Novar at the end of a mile in lmin 45 l-ssec.

First Sight and Rowley, following a ragged jump out, ran a mile in lmin 47 3-ssec, the first half taking 54sec and the last seven furlongs lmin 34sec. First Sight, hard held throughout, had the measure of his companion at the close.

Hunting Call jumped off better than Belcaire, but the latter gathered up her partner in the run home to cover the four furlongs in 53 2-ssec. Singleton was going better than Cohesion at the end of six furlongs in lmin 20sec, the last five taking lmin 6 2-ssec.

Hvmestrason had the advantage over Toawai at the end of seven furlongs in lmin 33 2-ssec. The southerner, however, was moving attractive! v.

Imperial Spark, with a light-weight up, left five furlongs behind in lmin 5 4-ssec.

Noteworthy recorded a very fair effpft, running half a mile in 53 4-ssec. Jeanette went out with a companion to run half a mile, the last three furlongs being left behind in 39sec, without the former being pressed. Silver Coot fan the first two of a five furlongs task in 25 l-ssec, and completed the full journey in lmin ssec, an attractive effort.

Kick Off appeared to be lame in front at the conclusion of an easy task on the plough, although he walked away from the stables better. Commendation made his reappearance in the active ranks this morning, when he did trotting and cantering on the No. 1 grass track. Ruffles, Glena Bay and Black Maire arrived on Saturday. The trio are looking well, although the first-named is a trifle burly.

R. S. Bagby will pilot First Sight Veronese and Kilburn.

R. G. Stratton has been engaged for Novar, Noteworthy, Silver Coot, Hot Springs, and Roburant. K. Voitre will ride Lady Alophen, Richfield, Discourse, Callanmore, Duellona and Lin Arlington.

ELLERSLIE NOTES. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, December 24.. The weather was fine for the final gallops at Ellerslie to-day, the course proper 40 feet out from the rails being available for fast work. The going was good. Before breakfast King Emerald and Eager Rose ran four furlongs in 52sec. Staghunter ran six furlongs in lmin 18 2-ssec, but he was not doing his best. Honour easily defeated Phillipic over five furlongs in lmin 4 3-ssec. Ceremony, alone, did the same distance in lmin 3 2-ssec, going well. Gold Money galloped four furlongs in 50 2-ssec. Valsier beat Brampton over seven furlongs in lmin 36 3-ssec. Sir Russell and Lido did five furlongs in lmin 5 4-ssec. Kingfield went four furlongs in 50 2-ssec. Speedlight, from a stand, covered five furlongs in lmin 6sec. Vertigern sprinted four furlongs in 51 2-ssec. Transformer and Hoylake went a mile in lmin 45sec, the latter being several lengths ahead. Tea Money was too good for Sir Mond and Zane Grey over six rurlongs in lmin 22 l-ssec. Ripon Abbey and King’s Guard were on terms at the end of a mile in lmin 47 l-ssec. Lvsander was in front of Awarere at end of five furlongs in lmin 3 4-ssec. Palamres and War Officer went four furlongs in 50 l-ssec. Catkin, Oratrix, and Concentrate finished as named at the end of a round in 2min 6 3-ssec, the last seven furlongs in lmin 31 3-ssec. Corinax and Papatu finished together several lengths in front of Goshawk with Thursby beaten off at the end of ten furlongs in 2min 14sec, the last round taking 2mjn 4sec. Moorgas jumped off at the mile post. Court Jester joined in at the six furlongs, the former going the best in lmin 47 l-ssec.

Jolly Money went four furlongs from a stand in 51 4-ssec.

Flying Juliet, Macroom and Briar Root finished as named at the end of five furlongs in lmin 5 l-ssec. Crown Area alone took lmin 19 3-ssec for six furlongs.

Amor and Wharncliffe were together at the end of seven furlongs in lmin 37 4-ssec.

Tea Time easily beat Billikins and Ohinemuri over five furlongs in lmin 4 l-ssec.

Red Heckle went a round in 2min 6 4-ssec, and with Zeuxis joined in at the seven furlongs post covered the latter distance in frnin 31 4-ssec.

Storm Fiend ran five furlongs in lmin ssec. Aussie galloped a brilliant five furlongs in lmin 1 4-ssec. Paganelli, who looks greatly improved, ran four furlongs in 48 3-ssec, another brilliant effort. Count Cavour easily accounted for Mask over ten furlongs in 2min 15 4-osec, the last round being run in 2min •6sec. Consent was timed to run five furlongs in lmin 4 l-ssec, going nicely. The Hawk and White Fang were on terms over five furlongs run in lmin 6 2-ssec. Laughing Prince and Cashier ran ten furlongs in 2min 16 -4-ssec, the last seven furlongs taking lmin 33 l-ssec. The former was slightly in front. Metellus beat High Falutin’ over six furlongs in lmin 18sec. After breakfast Tasty and Gay Duke were together at the end of four furlongs in slsec. Prodice, who is impoving with every gallop, finished with Desert Glow after running ten furlongs in 2min 17 3-ssec, the last round taking 2min 5 l-ssec, and the final seven furlongs lmin 33 3-ssec. Lady Cintra went seven furlongs in lmin 34 2-ssec. Awamutu beat Flying Prince over five furlongs in lmin ssec. Air King and Arikitoa went six furlongs in lmin 18 3-ssec. Potoanui and Glenotus • did a round in 2min 14sec. Good Boy went five furlongs in lmin 5 l-ssec.

Beaumont (Garrett) and Blago (Williams) jumped four hurdles safely. The former was afterwards beaten by Bizarro in a round run in 2min 8 3-ssec.

Silvermine, Bright Glow and Talisker did easy tasks only.
