PERRY BROS.’ CIRCUS.

The circus is one of the oldest kind of amusements. Through the years it has undergone many changes, but of it this can be said: Its popularity has in no way decreased. The circus enjoyed great popularity in the days of the Romans; its popularity is undiminished to-day, as is clearly demonstrated whenever a. combination comes along. In New Zealand travelling circuses are rare, but whenever they appear on the scene they are warmly received. Twelve months have passed since the last circus visited Christchurch. The long interval will be broken by the Appearance on Saturday, December 29, opposite the Railway Station, of Messrs Perry Bros.’ citcus and zoo, which have gained high praise wherever exhibited. The zoo is an extensive one, containing a large assortment of animals, while the circus includes many acts of startling parts, including the Flying Lorenzas, mid-air marvels; Signor Alberto, the wire walker, who somersaults on the silver thread; Captain Monzalo and his performing lions and tigers; the Archie Troupe, wonderful perch and ladder balancers; Tommy, the midget elephant, which dances ths Charleston and plays his own music, together with riders, tumblers, acrobats, clowns and performing horses, ponies and dogs. The zoo will be open between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m., when animals will be fed. The evening performance will be at eight. The season is limited to seven nights and three matinees. _
