MILITARY TRAINEES INJUREDHYDROPLANE FOUNDERS AFTER BREAKING BACK—MAN ELECTROCUTED. (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Received December 24, 11.30 a.m.) MELBOURNE, December 24. A NUMBER of military trainees rushed to a tent during a thunderstorm at Williamstown yesterday afternoon and fell against some rifles, one of which happened to be loaded. It exploded, and the bullet shattered other rifles and splintered a bayonet. William Doyle was killed and four other trainees are suffering from minor wounds caused by flying steel. —Australian Press Association. . (Received December 24, 9.10 a.m.) • SYDNEY, December 24. Careering at 50 miles an hour at Botany Bay yesterday, a hydroplane named Ace leapt from the water through space, landed on the crest of a wave and foundered, with a broken back. The boat was a total loss. It cost £6OO. K. Bardsley and his mechanic were picked up by a motor launch suffering from their immersion. Thomas Hall, 34, who arrived from America and bad just received Christmas greetings from his family, at the suburb of Merrylands, climbed on to a bedstead to fix the electric light and was electrocuted by 240 volts.—Australian Press Association.
