FATAL FIGHT ABOARD SHIP.

FREQUENT QUARRELS DURING VOYAGE. (United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Received December 24, 11 a.m.) MELBOURNE, December 24. The crew of the oil tanker British Corporal recounted thrilling experiences on the voyage, on the arrival of the vessel from Abadan, Persia. Frequent quarrels occurred and some of these were settled with bare fists, the participants being stripped to the waist. A day out from Port Said a serious encounter took place and knives flashed. The chief steward was stabbed and died. A seaman was arrested. Only four moderately calm days were experienced during the rest of the voyage to Australia. Many of the crew were working their passage and had never seen the sea before. Some of these deserted at Melbourne.—Australian Press Association.
