POPULAR HEAD MASTER RETIRES.
MR ROWNTREE HONOURED BY RICHMOND PUPILS. Ifr W W. Rowntree, of Richmond School, who is retiring on superannuation after serving over forty years with the Education Department, was a great favourite with the children To express their appreciation of the many kindnesses shown to them, a child front each standard read a short speech, after which Master Sefton Daly presented -Hr Rowntree with a pair of binoculars.
In returning thanks, Mr ' Rowntree said that the five years spent in Richmond School had been very happy ones and he appealed to the children to uphold the high traditions for which the school was well-known. The staff of the school farewelled Mr and Mrs Rowntree at an afternoon tea held at the residence of Mr J. Bowden, 44, Petrie Street, Richmond. In eulogistic speeches Mr Bowden and Miss Aiken spoke of the cordial relations that had always existed between the head master and his staff and of the high standard which he had maintained during his term in the school. In presenting Mr Rowntree with a suitcase, Mr Bowden wished him the best of health and long years in which to enjoy his well-earned retirement. Mr Rowntree feelingly responded.
