MAJOR JARVIE DENIES RECEIVING BRIBE.

FITZGIBBONS DID NOT GIVE HIM £3OO. (United Press Aasn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copy right.) (Received December 22, 10.5 a.m.) SYDNEY, December 22. Continuing his evidence on the bribery charge against Michael Fitzgibbons, Major Milton Jarvie denied that he had received £3OO from Fitzgibbons for himself, or for the National Party funds. Mr Winever, K.C., counsel for Fitzgibbons, said: “Then you can explain why Fitzgibbons. when drawing £2OO from his bank, also withdrew £300?” Jarvie: "No." Jarvie admitted that when the Premier (Mr Bavin) was discussing the attempt to bribe Mr Bruntnell, the Premier asked whether there was a rumour about £3OO as well as £2OO, to which Jarvie replied; “Yes. there is a rumoifr,” but said that he. Jarvie, had no knowledge as to whether he was implicated. Mr Winever; “What was the rumour?” Jarvie: “That £SOO had been withdrawn, £2OO having reached Mr Bruntnell, and there was some suggestion that £3OO had reached me, which certainly was not correct.” The police tendered a statement by Fitzgibbons in which he declared that he had withdrawn £SOO, not £2OO which was intended for the party funds. Br\mtnell, related that Major Jarvie, a fellow Parliamentarian, brought him a gift of pipes, to which was attached an envelope containing two £IOO notes. Fitzgibbons was an applicant for a bus route which required Mr Bruntnell’s official sanction, for which Fitzgibbons had a rival nAmed M’Nichol. Mr Bnintnell refused the gifts and interviewed Major Jarvie. who said that he did not know that the £2OO accompanied the pipes.
