LAMP CAUSED FATAL SHOCK.
INQUEST CONCERNING ENGINEER’S DEATH. Per Press Association. WAIPUKURAU, December 22 An inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the death of John William West Tyrie, aged 62 years, engineer to the Waipukurau Hospital Board, was held before Dr H. W. Kendall, District Coroner, this morning. Expert evidence showed that an extension lamp as used by deceased in making an inspection of the drainage system of the isolation ward did not comply with the Government regulations. A verdict was returned that death was due to syncope resulting from shock following the passage of an electric current through the body, and that the shock was received while engaged on the board’s duty-.
