SHAW’S LETTERS SOLD TO AMERICA.

LEGAL PROCESS TO STOP THEIR PUBLICATION. (Special to the “ Star.”) LONDON, October 18. Mr Gabriel Wells, the American collector and great rival to Dr Rosenbach, has just purchased on the Continent for a considerable sum numerous private letters written to one individual by Mr George Bernard Shaw. The letters range over a period of ten years and treat of a variety of subjects, each one being a Shavian essay*. They are now on their way to the United States, where, it is presumed, they will pass into the possession of an admirer of Mr Shaw. It is hardly likeiy that they will be published because Mr Shaw, who is aware of the transaction, is strongly opposed to his private correspondence being made public. He had stated his intention of using every legal weapon in his power to prevent publication and the infringement of his copyright as the author of the letters. Mr Shaw recalled last evening that on a previous occasion he had to take action in America to prevent publication of his letters.
