POT-POURRI.

Pot-pourri is a medley or mixture consisting of herbs, flowers and spices, all dried and made to give off a delightful perfume. Gather about three dozen full-blown roses. Strip off the petals and spread in the sun to dry, until brown and crisp. Turn them daily. They may take a week. Also dry a good bunch of lavender and strip off the flowers. Mix with rose petals. Add a large sprig of thyme, twenty sage leaves and a handful of rosemary, all dried. Gather fifty big geranium leaves and divide into small pieces, and dry them, too. Any other sweet herb or flower may be added, provided they are well dried. The success lies in the drying, because the least bit of mildew will spoil the whole lot. Add 2oz powdered orris root and 2d worth of tonquin beans (from chemist). Crush the beans and add all to the pot-pourri. Lastly add three teaspoons of allspice.
