“THE ROOKIES” OPENS AT STRAND TO-DAY.
The new programme to be screened at the Strand Theatre this afternoon and evening will be headed by a picture entitled “ Rookies,” in which the leading roles are played by Karl Dane and G. K. Arthur. The story relates the doings at a military training camp during the Great War and centres round the adventures of a raw trainee and a very tough sergeant, who try at every possible moment to get even with each other. The picture is said to be full of very funny incidents. Betty Wayne has a leading part, and the supporting cast includes Marceline Day, Tom O’Brien, Lincoln Steadman, Frank Currier and Louise Lorraine. The second attraction will be the “High School Hero,” which is described as being a fast-moving comedy drama of the modern American youth. The leading parts are played by Sally _ Phipps and Nick Steuart. The supporting programme will include a comedy, variety and topical films, also the cartoon picture, “ Felix in Stars and Stripes.”
