“Saltaire,” North Beach, the beautiful home of Air and Mrs C. Dixon, has been lent for the Christchurch Keswick Convention on January 1 and 2. The speakers are to be Revs W. A. Orange and C. S. Alatthews, and Alessrs F. Varley and Wilson, a returned missionary. Owing to this being the inaugural convention, it has been thought wisest to ask friends to bring their own baskets, but tea, hot water and milk will be provided. Two tents have been hired for the meetings, which will be availbale for anyone wishing to stay overnight. In that case it will be necessary to bring blankets, pillows, towels, soap and candles.

After exhaustive tests of some eighty Christchurch aspirants to screen fame and the careful combing of the available amateur theatrical talent, Aliss Jane Kinsey has been chosen for the leading role in Mr Rudall Hayward’s new production, “ A Daughter of Christchurch.” No doubt Aliss Kinsey’s previous theatrical and screen experience influenced the producer in his final selection. Among the final choice were six ladies with very extensive experience on the amateur theatrical stage, but Miss Kinsey’s “ screen face ” was considered an important factor. The argus-eyed camera demands a face devoid of lines, and is “ kind ” to large, expressive eyes of a dark shade, of which Aliss Kinsey is the happy possessor. Her type can be described as “ petite brunette ” —a description which applies to many of the successful screen artists to-day. In the various dramatic testa undertaken by Aliss Kinsey on Thursday, she proved to have something more than screen beauty, and the Christchurch public w T ill soon be given an opportunity to confirm this opinion. Last night Air and Mrs 11. El worthy gave an enjoyable dance at “Craigmore.” Airs Elworthy received her guests wearing a beautiful frock of maroon crepe de chine, with an overdress of sequins of a brighter shade. Miss Rona Elworthy’s frock of seagreen crepe de chine was covered with opalescent sequins, and finished with a large bow at the side. Miss Cecil Elworthy wore shell-pink georgette, the skirt was heavily flared, and the neck and waist banded in diamente. Aliss Elizabeth Elworthy was in a frock of golden-coloured satin, with a very full skirt, and a flat bow at the back of the waist; and Aliss Josephine Elworthy wore a frock of rainbow-tinted floral georgette, the frills on the skirt being edged with fine lace. The rooms were arranged with deep pink peonies, delphiniums, and dark blue larkspur, while the marquee was transformed into a fairyland, with Chinese lanterns. Among those present were:— Air and Mrs W. N. Bond, Air and Airs W. T. Ritchie, Air and Airs C. H. Gresson, Air and Mrs H. Sinclair Thomson, Air and Mrs Gould and Aliss Cotteril, Alisses Joan Hargreaves, Alargaret and Rosa Tripp. Diana Allen (Christchurch), Helen Kinross-White, Janet Studholme, Scota Steward, Dendrah Rhodes, Betty and Nan Cossins, Mary Rolleston, Natalie and Vivienne Alorris, Betty Harper, Adrienne Acland (Christchurch), Nancy Orbell, Mary and Nancy Bond, and Kathleen Wood; Alessrs 11.
