HAGLEY CLUB. Tho annual meeting of the Hagley Golf Club whs held last night, Mr E. J. Itosa presiding over a good attendance. The afinual report, which was adopted, stated that the opening: of the Russley course relieved Hagley sufficiently to allow t lie admission of almost all those on the waiting list. The financial position was sound. During the year the Executive Committee, on bv-half of the Hagley links, took up an adidtional six hundred shares in the Hagley Dinks Company to assist in the development of Russley. Notwithstanding this, Hagley account showed £9S 9s '9d in hand. Outstanding accounts would veduce this amount, to £3O 3s 9d. The statement of income and expenditure showed a credit cf £264 12s 2d, which might be considered very satisfactory. A comprehensive programme for men's Saturday matches and the usual challenge cup competitions attracted good entries. Generally tho standard of play was on a par with thV> previous year's golf, except that thc-re was a noticeable improvement. in the play of some of the juniors. The ladies had a very successful season. In Inter-club matches eight were won, five lost and one drawn. In the non-handicap section, players were keen to obtain handicaps, and out of the many participating in thtese matches thirteen were successful. The membership of Russley was very encouraging. Except for a few’ matches, the competitions last year were of a scratch nature. The course and the club generally were in the making. Next season, with the course further improved, and the permanent greens in good order, a considered programme would be arranged, printed and circulated before the season opened. The thanks of the club were due to Air J. A. Redpath, jun., for the handsome challenge c_up he generously presented, also to the'anonymous donor who gave five guineas for prizes for ladies’ competitions; Mr R. Clark also deserved thanks for the trophy he presented. Other trophies had been promised for next season, when more valuable prizes would be given for weekly matches. The most pleasing feature of the year was the loyal way in which committees, directors of the Links Company and individual members worked so unselfishly in the interests of the club. The directors had a lot of work and anxiety, and were entitled to the thanks of members. The help given by members of working bees and other members w r ho, being unable to work, rendered financial assistance was appreciated. The furnishing of the golf house was a tribute to the energy of the ladtes who worked so well for this object. Thanks to the generosity of Mr M. S. Brown, seats would be placed at various teeing grounds before the opening of next season,. and appreciation was expressed for fruit tretes supplied by Air H. D. AnAn appeal to members to take up more shares in the Hagley Golf Links Cornpan?/ was made by Mr F. Hobbs, and resulted in five hundred shares being taken up in the room.
