WEST OF ENGLAND SOCIETY IS HOST TO MANY CHILDREN,

On Saturday evening last the West of England Society held their first Christmas party at the Orange Hall, Worcester Street. The hall was suitably decorated, and a huge Christmas tree was erected upon the platform, and well filled with presents for the children. One hundred and eight children or grandchildren of members were entertained. There were also about the same number of adults present. At five o’clock games were started, and at six o’clock the junior children had their tea and at 6.45 p.m. the older children. Mr William Deans, of Wainoni Road, gave a lovely can of cream. At 7.30 p.m. the adults had tea. A little later Father Christmas arrived, and was recevied with cheers. He was escorted to the platform, where he was kept busy distributing toys and presents to each child. Mrs Fox (secretary) enrolled five new members. Miss Bessie Pollard was accompanist for the evening. On Wednesday evening the committee of the West of England Society were entertained by Dr and Mrs Whetter at their residence, Gloucester Street. Mrs Whetter and her two daughters served a delightful supper. Dr Whetter is the society’s president. Musical items were rendered, and arrangements were made for the society’s garden party to be held at the end of January,
