BAD WEATHER MARRED JUNIOR PIGEON RACE

The junior section of the Christchurch Racing Pigeon Society recently held a special race from Invercargill. Eight birds were sent, divided amongst four owners. The birds were liberated by Mr Robson at 6 a.m. in fair weather, with a slight south-west wind. However, they encountered bad weather later on, preventing good returns. The winning bird, Royal Star, the property of Mr A. Duffield, flew the distance of 290 miles 946 yards in 6hr 42min 15sec. The following are the results:— yds per min. A. Duffield’s Royal Star . . 1271 J. Baxter’s No. 1821 1260 H. Allard’s Smithy 944 A. Duffield and J. Baxter won the special nominated bird prizes.
