N.Z. LEAGUE PLAYERS SHOW GOOD FORM IN HOME GAMES.

“ Following a brilliant game against Barrow, B. Davidson, the Auckland three-quarter, redeemed himself in the eyes of the Wigan directors, and at the conclusion of the match was immediately removed from the transfer list,” says the “ Wigan Examiner.” Davidson gave a disappointing display at the opening of the season, and his place at centre three-quarter was taken by Kinnear, the famous Scottish Rugby inter-, national for whom Wigan paid big money two seasons ago. The price placed on Davidson was £4OO. and it was known that Hull were keen to secure his services. However, the Aucklander was given another chance, and, according to private advice, Davidson has fulfilled all expectations, and is assured of a regular game for Wigan in the cup tie matches. Against Barrow Wigan gained a convincing victory, which was brought about by the brilliant football of the colonial pair, Davidson and Brown. An English paper, commenting on the game, says: “ A pleasing feature of the game was the splendid form shown by Davidson, who had been dropped owing to poor displays. On this occasion he played his best game since joining Wigan, and stood out as the best back on the ground. The combination between Davidson and Brown delighted the spectators. The Barrow men could not cope with this clever and elusive pair, who between them scored five tries. Each of Brown’s three tries were obtained through the brilliant work of Davidson at centre, whose pace has improved since last season. Wigan won by 37 points to 13. Jim Sullivan kicked five goals for Wigan.” With the English Tennis Team at Hollywood. Told by Mr Sabelli, manager of the English tennis team, in “Lawn Tennis and Badminton": “We were conducted over the Fairbanks Studio by the great man himself. He showed us all through the studio and the flat, which he has built for his own use in the middle of every kind of stage set for the particular picture he is now “shooting,” which is based on the story of the “Three Musketeers.” When we arrived we saw a number of men on horseback, wearing red jerkins and white crosses, and we were hopeful that something was going to happen—but at that moment a stentorian voice shouted: “Everybody lunch until 12.30." In about half a minute, or less, the seventy or eighty

people In wigs and costumes and the horses had all disappeared. Douglas Fairbanks then showed us a game which he has evolved out of Badminton. The net is rather lower, the shuttlecocks are heavier, and tennis racquets are used. As the game is very fast, the rules allow of the shuttle being passed to the partner, who can then either hit it with the racquet or improve the position of the shuttle with the hand and then hit it. The service mav not be handled, but has to be hit with the racquet direct. It makes a very good game indeed, with some long rallies.
