SERIOUS CRISIS NEAR IN COAL INDUSTRY.
BRITISH ECONOMIC MISSION IN AUSTRALIA. (United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Received December 20, 10.5 a.m.) SYDNEY, December 20. Sir Arthur Duckham and Mr Dougal Malcolm, members of the British Economic Mission, after inspecting the coalfields at Newcastle and Maitland, stated that it was apparent that a serious crisis was impending in the coal industry of Australia. Sir Arthur Duckham said unless New South Wales coal could be sold in Australia at a lower price than imported coal, there would be no option but to close the mines.—Australian Press Association.
