REPORT ON VESTRIS SLATES MANAGEMENT.
NO PROCEEDINGS AGAINST ANYONE IN U.S. JUSTIFIED. (United Frees Assn.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Received December 20, 9.30 a.m.) NEW YORK, December 19. Commissioner O’Neill has published an official report on the investigation into the sinking of the steamer Vestris. The report stated that the hearing had shown that there was no basis for prosecuting anyone in the United States for the disaster, but criticised the management of the vessel and urged stricter inspection of ships of foreign registry in the American trade.
Such vessels should be given the same inspection as American vessels, unless they held certificates of inspection from the country of registry.—Australian Press Association.
