CERTIFICATES ARE PRESENTED TO FIRST AID PUPILS.

The annual presentation of certificates to students of first aid, home nursing and hygiene who have passed examinations during the year was held in the Navy League Hall last evening. The presentation was made by Lady Rhodes. The chairman, Mr ,T. A. Flesher, said that progress had been very satisfactory during the past year. There were 390 certificates to be presented, compared with 249 in 1927. Classes had been fewer, but there had been more members of classes and a higher percentage of passes. At the conclusion of the presentation, a team of lady life-savers under Miss I. Azassiz, including Misses Colleen Costelloe, Dorothy Dickinson. Joan Craig and Ailsa Devereux. demonstrated methods of resuscitation of the apparently drowned. Mr J. Struthers explained the methods used. This was followed by a programme of moving pictures, including a film illustrative of the history of the Order of St John, and showing the work of the association and the brigade in England. Other short screenings were made of the “City <»n Wheels” and a film of the Tasman flight.

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A meeting of the General Committee of thte St John Ambulance Association was held last evening. Those present were:—Mesdames H. H. Smith and S. A. Watkins, Messrs M. .1.
