LAWN TENNIS.

MEETING OF MATCH COMMITTEE. A meeting- of the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association's Match Committee was held yesterday; present—Messrs P. R. Harman (chairman), William Goss. W. In. Seay, A. Borrows, S. W. Field, VY. S. Somerville, J. Mercer and R. Browning. SENIOR INTER-CLUB COMPETITION. The committee decided that, in view of the fact that several of the leading players would be absent from Christchurch, the round postponed from last Saturday be not played. It was decided that the fifth round should be played on January 12 as scheduled, and that consideration of the question of playing the other rounds be held over until the nfext meeting. COUNTRY TOURNAMENT. The secretary reported that very few entries had been received for the proposed country tournament., which it was intended should take place on the hard courts at. Wilding Park, commencing on Boxing Bay. Several members of thte committee expressed regret that the country players had not availaed themselves of the opportunity affoi’ded, and it was resolved that the tournament be abandoned for this year. It was resolved that, latter, the country clubs be circularised pointing out that the association is desirous of assisting them and is willing to organise a tournament at such time as would prove most suitable to the majority. CHRISTMAS OPEN AND HANDICAP TOURNAMENT. The secretary reported that the entries for this tournament were very satisfactory. Several players from the North Island would be taking part. It was resolved that the charge for admission be Is each daj-, and that competitors be supplied with entrance passes. Tne general arrangements for the tournament were left in tlve hands of the secretary. A sub-committee consisting of Messrs P. R. Harman, William Goss and R. Browning was appointed, with power to act in the matter of enforcing the tournament regulations, where necessary. CHRISTMAS TOURNAMENT.
