(Received December 20, 10.40 a.m.) LONDON, December 10. THERE was a flutter in society circles at the Savoy Church, when the fact that a New Zealand bride, Miss Huia Sargood, instead of marrying her announced fiance. Captain Valle Pope, of the Royal Artillery, who took out a licence a fortnight ago, married to-day a New Zealander, Lieutenant lan Lawrence Maekillop, of the Royal Engineers. When interviewed the bride said: “The other one is off and I am marrying Lieutenant Maekillop,” who interposed: “The other announcement was incorrect.” It is understood that Captain Pope told the church authorities as late as Saturday that everything was in order, hut on Monday Miss Sargood told them that she was marrying Lieutenant Maekillop. She was informed that under the circumstances the old licence was invalid, so she paid 51/- for a short notice special licence. She is a grand-daughter of the late Sir Frederick Sargood.—Australian Press Association.
