YACHTING

SUGGESTS AGE LIMIT FOR CREWS ENTERING IN SANDERS CUP. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, December 19. Unless future contests for the Sanders Memorial Cup are confined to youths under 21 the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, which has always supported the competitions in the past will not continue to do so. This intimation was received at a meeting of the Auckland Yacht and Motor Boat Association last evening and caused considerable discussion. The chairmap (Mr O. Moller) said that the suggested change in ijie conduct of the contests was vital and could not be dealt with by the association there and then. It would be necessary to refer the matter to the various clubs. He was sorry that the Squadron could not see its way to give it the same financial support as formerly. This year the club had reduced its contribution to £lO 10s com pared with £2O last year. Mr W. A. Wilkinson said that the opinion of the Squadron was not that of other clubs. Mr A. J. Collings moved that a pro forma remit be sent to the competing Sanders Cup provinces suggesting that future contests should be confined to crews under 21 years. An amendment moved by Mr Wilkinson that the matter be referred to delegates for their opinion lapsed for want of a seconder. When the question of financing the 1929 contest was dealt with it was agreed that all members of the chosen crew over 21 be asked to contribute £5 each toward the cost. The first of the series of trial races to select the Auckland representative will be held to-morrow evening. The boats are Val, Rona, and Avalon.
