OLD CHRISTCHURCH BOY WHO GETS THINGS DONE.
An old Christchurch boy who has made his mark in the engineering pro-
fession is Mr H. Harris Robson, a son of Mr T. E. Robson, publisher of the Christchurch “Star.” Mr H. H. Robson is now superintending engineer of the marine department of the United Fruit Cqjnpany, a big corporation of Boston, Massachusetts.
In the past four years, according to the journal of this
company, Mr Robson has been able to make remarkable economies in the fuel consumption of the company's twelve big oil-burning passenger and freight ships. Fuel is the major item of expense in steamship operation, and for 1927 fuel oil expenditure exceeded the total of deck, engines, refrigeration and stewards’ maintenance costs by 42.5 per cent. Under Mr Robson’s management fuel pounds per mile have been reduced from 345 to 308, and this was accomplished without any variation of speed. __________________
