The Misses E. and X. Ward will leave Christchurch this evening for Sydney. Miss Hilda Otley, St Andrew’s Square, will leave next week for a holiday visit to Auckland. Mrs J. H. Edmundson. Napier, will arrive in Christchurch to-day, to attend the wedding of her son, Mr C. D. Edmundson, to Miss Barbara Graham. Mr and Mrs 11. East. Papanui Road, will leave on Monday for the north, where they will spend a motoring holiday. A sale of work promoted hv the Catholic community of New Brighton in aid of their church will be held on Friday and Saturday. December 21 and 22. It will be officially opened by Bishop Brodie on Friday at 7.30 p.m. There will be good side-shows, also produce, fancy and variety stalls. The Municipal Band will be in attendance. The pupils of Miss Vera Carpenter. L.A.8.. and their parents spent a very pleasant social evening at the residence of Mrs F. L. Horne, Strickland Street. Pianoforte solos and duets were contributed by the following:—Misses Dorothy A. Ar.tman, Phyllis De Jois, Maidie and Reta Sanders, Jean Brown, Marjorie Grubb. Florence Dwight. Marjorie Shin, Ethel Home. Hilda Hodges Gwen Carpenter and Rona Smi*h and Master Ivan Shin. The musical programme were interspersed with games and several eluocutionarv items. Miss Carpenter •concluded the programme with a solo (by request), after which supper was served.

Miss Merle Miller, who is a student at the Conservatorium, Sydney, arrived in Lyttelton to-dav to visit her parents, Mr and Mrs M J. Miller. Mrs T. M. Hunter and the Misses Hunter, Lyttelton, will leave this week for a visit to Wellington, where they will be the guests of Mrs W. Cable. Levy Street. Mrs IT. T. Little, ITawarden. Miss N. White, ITawarden, and Mrs S. E. Campbell, Wellington, arrived in Christchurch yesterday and are staying at Warner’s Hotel. Viscount Hampden. Viscountess Hampden. Miss Brand and Miss M. Smith arrived in Christchurch from Dunedin last evening. They are staying at the United Service Hotel. Mrs J. G. Jelfs, of Woodend, and her two sons, Raymond and Gordon, motored to North Canterbury to stay with her parents, Mr and Mrs W.
