FOOTBALL CLUB’S PICNIC HELD AT MOTUKARARA.
The Merivale Football Club’s picnic at Motukarara on Sunday attracted a big: crowd. Jn addition to those who travelled by the electric train, many motored to Waihora Park. A programme of sports and entertainments provided plenty of interest for the picnickers, and the day proved thoroughly enjoyable. Father Christmas attended and presented gifts to the children. A display was given by pupils of Mr C. Buekett, and their work was v&ry pleasing. Items by the Tuahlwl Maoris were popular. During the day selections were played by the Papanui Silver Band. Married Women's Race—Mrs Haines 1, Mrs Casbolt 2. Single Women’s Race—Miss Grennell 1, Miss Lindsay 2. Sack Race—Miss Grennell 1, Miss Knight 2. Racquet and Ball—Miss Turner 1, Mrs Leonard 2. Teams’ Races' —Under 17: Robinson 1, M'Cracken 2. Over 17 and under 20: Rich 1, Mann 2. Third and second grades: Tucker 1, Ritchie 2. Senior A and B grades: W. Oliver 1. Collins 2. Open Handicap (visitors) —W. Whitham 1, R- Neill 2. Coaches’ Race—H. Hughes 1, P. Giles 2 Junior Club Championship—Quaine 1, Club Championship—Goodman 1, Kirkland 2. . .__ r Teams’ Relay Race —Seniors (W. Oliver. G. Rhodes, H. Goodman, ,J. K, About d Sixteen members of the Star Football Club (Timaru) were present, and a special race was put on the programme for them, the result being a win for Ford, with Shewan second.
