CITY LIGHTING SYSTEM FAILED FOR A PERIOD ON SATURDAY NIGHT.

The electric lighting system throughout the city was interfered w T ith shortly- before eleven o'clock on Saturday, all lights going out for some, minutes. The trouble arose on account of the big No. 1 tunnel at Lake Coleridge being closed down to allow work to be done at the surge-chamber. Arrangements were made to run temporarily on the old station plant, on the assumption that the load would not be beyond its capacity. The city load proved to be too much for the station, and when it came on the trouble arose. Yesterday, the supply was interfered with from 4.39 p.m. to 4.51 p.m., owing to having to shut down a station while the three-cord trifurcating cable was separated into three single cords.
