HEALTH WEEK IS USHERED IN BY RAIN.

BAD CONDITIONS DO NOT PREVENT A START BEING MADE.

“Health Week" began in Christchurch to-day. The weather conditions were unfavburable, but that did not prevent a commencement being made -with the special rubbish collection arranged by the City Council. ’ That citizens are taking an interest in the Health Week activities is evidenced by the large number of applications received by the City Engineer s Department from residents for the removal of refuse. These applications are referred to the foremen in the districts from-which they come, and the foremen then inspect the premises with a view to finding out if the refuse is of a nature that can be dealt with by the destructor. This- is a necessary precaution, as it has been found in some cases that citizens wished to have quantities of earth, petrol cans and other things removed that did not coxpe under the heading of refuse from the viewpoint of the destructor. The rubbish collection which starts to-day is the. preliminary step in the Health Week campaign, which will be carried on during the remainder of the period by lectures and other means designed to arouse interest in the matter of public health. The following lectures have been arranged at city factories, all being timed for 12.20, p.m. : To-morrow —Messrs P. and D. Dqncan. Dr W. H. Simpson; Messrs John Anderson and Co., Ltd., Dr H. L.
