FARM LABOURER RECEIVES SERIOUS KNIFE WOUND.

What might have been a serious accident occurred at Mr J. Kidd’s homestead at Avoca last week to a young man named A. Manning. He was engaged along with five or six other men at marking lambs when one of the animals jumped against a sharp knife which he held in his right hand and drove it into the upper part of his leg, just below the groin, making a wound three inches in depth. The injured man was bandaged up quickly to stop the bleeding, and a wire mattress was procured to act as a stretcher. He was carried for about three miles over rough country to the railway, where he was put on a train and taken to Springfield. A doctor was waiting and an operation was performed immediately. It was found that the wound was not as serious as expected, but he had lost a large quantity of blood.
