The men of the Ist Battalion Prince of Wales’s Volunteers (South Lancashire) —a regiment of the line that has a history dating back to 1717—relieved the Guards Battalion-in-Waiting at St James’s Palace and Buckingham Palace, London, on August 21, before an interested crowd. Only four line battalions have come to London during the last twenty years to relieve the Guards Battalion on ‘‘public duties.” The changing of the old to the new guard, which was carried out with military precision at St James's Palace, London, by Hie Volunteer Regiment.
