RICCARTON BRANCH. The annual meeting of the Riccarton branch of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union was held on Thursday afternoon. Mrs C. Barrell presided over a good attendance and opened the meeting by reading Isaiah, Chapter 40. The reports of the various superintendents proved very satisfactory, the following being some of the departments worked: —Peace and arbitration, prison reform, cradle roll, legal and parliamentary, press. White Ribbon, good citizenship and band of hope. A very successful “Y” branch has also been formed. Donations amounting to about £5 were authorised to be distributed at Christmas time among various charities and relief organisations. Letters of thanks were sent to Mr Graveston for auditing the books, and to ministers of the local churches for Bible reading in schools during the past year. The election of officers resulted m the present officers being re-elected. On account of Mrs James’s leaving the district early next year, Mrs Pitt was appointed devotional leader. Afternoon tea was served by the social committee and _ the meeting closed with the Benediction.
