MID-CANTERBURY MEN PRAISE SERVICES OF HON W. NOSWORTHY.
Reference to the retirement of the Hon W. Nosworthy from Parliament was made at a meeting of the MidCanterbury executive of the Farmers’ Union at Ashburton yesterday. The president, Mr F. G. Evans, said the executive should move in some manner to show its appreciation of the very fine services Mr Nosworthy had given for the county in the past twenty years. He. had been greatly missed after he gave up the portfolio of Minister of Agriculture. The movement could embrace the whole community. „ . Mr W. T. Lill said the Union and the A. and P. Association could very well join in presenting some token to the Minister at a social evening. Several other members paid a tribute to Mr Nosworthy’s work. Messrs Evans, Dalton, W. T. Lill, H. C. Barton and P. Frampton were appointed to work with the A. and P.
Association in holding a banquet in honour of the Minister. Mr Carr said it had to be remembered there was a section of the Union that might be opposed to such a step, and the executive should be careful if its funds were to be used. The president said there was no suggestion that funds would be used.
