Their Excellencies Sir Charles Fergusson (Governor-General) and the Lady Alice Fergusson, accompanied by Captain Orr-Ewing and Miss Dugdale,. who have been spending a few days at the Hermitage, Mount Cook, returned north by special train yesterday and joined the ferry steamer for Wellington. A special motor conveyed the party from the Hermitage to Fairlie, where they boarded the special train. Mrs Murdoch M’Leod, Knowles Street, is visiting friends in Auckland. Mrs Bernard Wood will leave Christchurch this evening for Wellington. Mr and Mrs Vincent Ward will be passengers to Wellington from Christchurch this evening. Mrs Joseph Hollander, Hereford Street, has returned to Christchurch from Wellington. Mr and Mrs Alec Cole, Auckland, arrived in Christchurch this morning, and are staying at Warner's Hotel. Mr and Mrs Allan Bruce, of Wellington, are among the recent arrivals at the L T nited Service Hotel. Miss H. D. Dartnell, Melbourne, is the guest of Mrs C. E. Weatherburn, Papanui Road. Mr and Mrs B. R. Gowan (Melbourne) and Miss Elizabeth Cox (U.S.A.) are guests at Warner’s Hotel. Mr and Mrs I. H. Maddoch (Melbourne) are guests at the United Service Hotel. Miss Ethel LeCren has returned .to her home in Timaru after a brief visit to Christchurch. Mrs Percy Helmore is visiting her daughter, Mrs G. Minhinnich, Auckland. Miss Thelma Herbert, who recently underwent an operation, is now convalescent. Miss Thelma Crampton, St Martins, is staying with her cousin, Miss Madge M’Cormick, at Milford, Temuka. Mr and Mrs John Montgomery (Fendalton) left last night for a tour of the Nort hlsland. Mrs H. Rosanowski and the Misses Rosanowski, Opawa, are spending an extended holiday with Mrs W. E. J. Aitken, Cass. Miss C. Dickhoff, Southbrook, left by the ferry last night for the North Island, where she will spend a holiday. Mrs F. Pynei who returned recently from is going this week to stay with her daughter, Mrs Ynyr Robinson, who came to Christchurch from Marlborough to meet Per mother. Mrs H. Quane, Innes Road, St Albans, left last night for Wellington to meet her daughter, Mrs M’Master, -who is arriving from England by the Tainui on Sunday. Latest arrivals at the Hotel Federal include:—Mr E. Jackson (Wellington), Miss M. Stewart (Wellington), Mr and Mrs Arthur (Dunedin), Mrs John Seward and Miss Seward (Timaru) and Mr H. Hobson (Dunedin). The lady members of the Society of the Friends of St George have been busy this week preparing for the unveiling of the Chapman sundial tomorrow Afternoon at 2.30. The ceremony will be performed by Archbishop Julius, and an opportunity will be given all present to inspect the hospital grounds. Guests at the Franz Josef Glacier, Waiho Gorge, during the past week include:—Lady Myers (Auckland), Messrs French and Sanderson. Mr Rol> ertson, Mr and Miss Myers, Mr Wade (Auckland), Messrs Kernohan and Cooper, Mr Reid, Mr T. E. Y. Seddon (Greymouth), Mr and Mrs Trippett (New South Wales), Dr Porter U.S.A.), Mr Davy (Sydney), Mr and Mrs Stewart (Dunedin), Mr and Mrs Tripp (Timaru), Sutherland (Wellington). The North Brighton United Band of Hope held their closing social in the Ozone Cafe. North Beach, on Tuesday evening. Mr D. N. Adams presided over a large gathering of children and friends. Items were contributed by Mrs Goldman, Misses Pollard, Messrs Fever and Pollard and Master Raymond Noonan. Addresses were given by Mrs Goring and Mr Climie. A liberal supper was provided, bags of cakes being sent to the little ones who were unable to attend owing to the Health Department restrictions.
