TRAFFIC POLICE MAY NOW COLLECT FINES ON SPOT FROM OFFENDERS

(United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Received October 11, 1130 a.m.) PARIS, October 10. A decree has been issued authorising the road police to collect on the Spot motoring fines ranging from twelve to twenty-four shillings. The offender signs an acknowledgement of

his conviction. The regulations provide for an ordinary prosecution where other than pecuniary punishment is involved, or damages, or in cases where the offender has been previously convicted of, a similar offence. Otherwise the culprit has the choice of a fine on the spot, or a court hearing.—Australian Press Association.
