CRICKET. On Saturday, the Canterbury Boys’ Cricket Association reopened the 1928 season when the fourth round was played. However, owing to a shortage of pitches, a number of games were postponed until later in the season. On the whole, the standard of play was not particularly high, but there were some noteworthy exceptions, a century being recorded by M. Scully for the St. Bede’s seventh grade A team. Playing at Straven Road, St. Andrew’s showed poor form in their first innings against School A, and were dismissed for 24, Symes being the top- j scorer. Bowes, seven for 10, Jamieson, two for 8. and Lee, one for 0, took the wickets for School A, who fared little better and were all out for 5i (Norrie 11). Adair, four for 14; Symes, three for 0; and Jamieson, two for 7, bowled best for St. Andrew’s, who, in their second knock, had lost two wickets for 3S (Brown 20), when time was called. Armstrong, two for 10, bowled well for School A, who gained a five-point win.

The match between the two Technical teams proved rather a surprise, the A team being all out for 81. Carpenter 19, Grenfell 18, Harris 12, and Sutherland 10 not out, sectired double figures, whilst Bird four for 2, Black two for 10, Butterfield two for 18, and Puddle one for 23 were successful with the ball. The B team scored 120, Butterfield being

the chief contributor with a forceful 49, whilst Black scored a useful 11. Grenfell, five for 39, and Carpenter, one for 23, bowled best for Technical A, who suffered a five-point loss. The match between Grammar and School B was.not played. The following games are set down to be played next Saturday:--School A v. Technical B, Hospital Corner No. 5; St. Andrew’s v. Grammar, St. Andrew’s No. 3; School B v. Technical A, Straven Road No. 5. SIXTH GRADE. On Saturday, the two undefeated teams. Technical A and Technical B, met at Ensor’s Road, arid a fine even match saw the A team secure a fivepoint win. West suffered a five-point loss. At Northcote, School A took first knock against St. Bede’s, and after some bright batting reached 108 runs. Dendle 25, Rankin 20, M’Kenzie 16, Moriarty 14, and Clemens 10. gained double figures, whilst Shea,'three for 12, Nee three for 20, and Kean two for 21, divided the wickets. St. Bede’s, at one period, looked like falling short of their opponent’s total, but a good stand by M’Menamin, who scored 40. and

Shea, who notched 35, changed the aspect and the final total was 115, thu giving the home team a five-point win

Dobson four for 29, Cobden four for 36, and Dullard one for 13, bowled ‘best for the losers.

The game between the two Technical elevens proved keen. The B team batted first and notched 119, Read 30. Bellwood 23, Withell 20, and Marriott 14, being the chief contributors, whilst the wickets were shared among Hooper two for 9, Morgan two for 24. Waine one for 6, Josephs one for 9., and Smith one for 13. Technical A replied with 146. Harris 43, and Goldstone 36, were the main scorers, whilst Ayers 17 and Joseph 11 were next on the list. Read, four for 23, bowled best for the B team, who suffered a fivepoint loss. Technical C against School C registered 117. of which total Brown contributed 45, whilst Hannigan IS. and Henwood 17, were' next on the list. Vincent four for 27. Gill three for 28. and Borthwick two for 32, bowled best for School B. who were all out for 20. Brown five for 7. Clark two for 6, and

C. Henwood one for 0 took the wickets. Following on. School B had lost six wickets for 23 (Davison 10) when time was called. Brown four for 7. and Foster two for 9 .bowled best for Technical C. who obtained a five-point win. Riccarton won by default from Linwood . The draw for next Saturday is as follows: —School A v. Foote was the top-scorer, whilst Burt and Holt were the most successful bowlers for West Christchurch, who replied with 112 (Moore 28, Burt 27 Newman 20, and Skerton 17). Weatherburn, Foote and Cree took the wickets for St Andrew’s, who in their second innings did much better, notching 113 (Bowker 20 not out, Coulson 18, Penson 18 and Foote 10). Holt (3), Skerton (3) and Breward (2) took the wickets for West Christchurch, who gained a five-point win. In this game, the score-book, especially the bowlin ,v analysis, was kept very badly. The Competitions Committee wish me to inform the players that, in the event of further slackness in this respect, the teams responsible will be penalised as laid down in the rules. Linwood C batted first against School B but were all out for 22. No player secured double figures, but Lightfoot was the top- score . wickets for School, who replied with 107. Of this total, Carson contributed 54, whilst Treadwell 13, and Gilpin 11, also gained double figures. Gillespie five for 30. Commons two for 25, and Full wood two for 27 bowled best for Linwood C. who in their second innings had lost six wickets for 71 (Fullwood 18, Thompson 15, and Lightfoot 10) when time was called. Lewis two for 14, Mapplebeclc two for 25, and Gilpin one for 18, took the wickets for School B, who gained a five-point' win. The matche i, Linwooc. B v. Technical D and Technical B v.
