KAIAPOI COUNCIL NOW CONSIDERING ELECTRIC POWER AGREEMENT.

The Kaiapoi Borough Council met last night. Present: The Mayor (Mr H. C. Revell), Councillors H. M’ln tosh. F. Thorne, R. J. Dunne, E. J. Pollard, A. E. Brown, J. D. Williams, W. H. A. Vickery, D. Whyte and A: Linklater. The secretary l- of the Workers’ Edu cational Association, Christchurch, wrote thanking the council for granting the use of the Council Chambers lor the holding of the W.EA. classes. The Minister of Public Works wrote with reference to the borough’s' request for a £3 to £1 subsidy, similar to that granted to the adjoining counties, to wards the cost of putting down a per inanent roadway through the borough, and advised that the matter would receive careful consideration. The Hon D. Buddo, M.P., wrote expressing regret at the loss the town had sustained by the destruction of the Drill Hall by fire, and hoped that early means would be employed to replace it. The secretary of the North Canterbury Electric-Power Board wrote advising that the board was prepared to supply power to the borough on the following terms and conditions: First 200 k.v.a. at £2 10s per quarter, balance at £2 10s per quarter plus £25 per quarter—i.e., at standard rates plus £IOO per annum; supply to be given at 3300 volts at the borough boundary; the i term of agreement to be five years, the board agreeing not to supply any consumers in the borough and the borough agreeing not to supply any consumer.of the board.
