The approaching visit to Australia of Walter Hagen, the golf champion, and his acceptance of an offer from the Woodlands Golf Club, Mordialloc, to play his first match there for a fee of £IOO, lends interest to the views of the golf correspondent of the “ Daily Mail ” on this subject--There have been wildly divergent estimates as to the income of Walter Hagen, the only player from abroad who has won a British title three times. These computations have risen as* high as £20,000 a year. Knowing Hagen well, I should say that it is a very good season for him when he makes £6000; and he needs it, because he is. by nature a showman and a plutocrat. He lives in the best style at the best hotels; he likes to reserve a limousine for his exclusive use during the period of his stay at any golfing centre, and, when fancy dictates, he takes with him a henchman who is a combination of caddie, valet and secretary. _____
