SPRING BLOOMS TRANSFORM THE ART GALLERY.

HORTICULTURAL SHOW PROVES GREAT SUCCESS, j The Christchurch Art Gallery was < transformed yesterday into a wonderful j garden of spring flowers. According » to competent horticulturists, the ex- 1 hibits surpass both in quality and j quantity those entered at any previ- j ous show under the auspices of the - Canterbury Horticultural Society. Daf- * fodils are a very strong class, but they are by no means the only feature. Thu I society has made an endeavour this ‘ season to encourage the entry of out r * door cut flowers, and the response from I horticulturists has been ample reqom- 1 pense for the effort. The long J table carrying these classes is a mass * of beautiful colours, and a wonderful exhibition for this time of the year. I Flowering shrubs and ericas are pro- s minent in a tasteful entry by Mrs Ivorv •_ (St Martins), while the efforts of other ’ competitors combine to the making of l a comprehensive display. Hyacinths, {_ anemones, primroses and polyanthus, * all in glorious bloom, lend great col- j our to another table containing spring f flowers. In the pot plants % section, a | large one, there are some exceptionally r fine cyclamens and primulas. ! There was a large attendance at the opening and throughout the afternoon r and evening. The show will close to- ( night. Following is the prize list;— i F Amateur.—Hyacinths (3) —G. Tluther- C ford 1, H. Williams 2. Tulips C2)—W. v Taylor 1, G. Rutherford 2. Anemone* T (3)—Miss L.
