COMING VISIT OF BRITISH TEAM.

At the annual meeting of delegates to the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Asso ciatjon, last night, the chairman, Mr W. I N. Seay, referred to the visit of the British team of lawn tennis players. He said that the team was expected to play the South Island in Christchurch on October 26 and 27. It was unfortunate that the following week was Carnival Week in Christchurch. There fore a test match had not been arranged in Christchurch because it was thought not desirable to clash with Carnival Week. The visit of the team was important because it was the best that could be got from England at the present time, .and, therefore, New Zealand would be able to compare its players with the best of Britain. The Match Committee reported that the detailed arrangements in connection with the visit were being attended to.

CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION. 4 ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of delegates to the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association was held last night. In the un avoidable absence of the president, Mr J. H. Kirk, the chair was occupied by Mr W. N. Seay, vice-president. There was a good attendance of delegates. In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet, a copy of which has already been published, Mr Seay said he thought that the work done during the past year was very satisfactory indeed, and all concerned could be congratula Ifed. The season had been a very full one for players, though he still thought that there were not sufficient ladies’ matches. With Wilding Park free during the week he thought it should be possible to arrange more matches fpr the ladies This would tend to improve the standard of their play. The Junior Association had been thoroughly established last season, and they were looking for good results from this association. Referring to new grass courts at Wilding Park, Mr Seay ■ said that, in order to get good grass courts, work .should be started on them almost immediately, so that the grounds could be graded before Christmas. This would give an opportunity of keeping the weeds down by harrowing or hoeing up till March. They had some excellent grass courts at Wilding Park now, but, in order to kesp the courts in good condition, they should have plenty of grass courts so that they could spell them at fairly frequent intervals. The finances of the association were in a very satisfactory condition. He liked the policy of not running into debt. They should adopt the policy of carrying ©ut work when they had the money to do so. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. •

In connection with the appointment of delegates to the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association, it was decided that Mr W. Goss should be appointed as an additional delegate.
