The development of extensive swamp lands east of Hamilton may be promoted as the result of a conference of six drainage boards yesterday, states a Press Association telegram. Government engineers four years ago recommended a comprehensive scheme for the district, to cost £150,000. The boards declined to amalgamate, fearing an additional rate burden, and had reached a deadlock with the Government, which refused to assist partial schemes. Five boards yesterday approved amalgamation, one opposed and one was not represented.
