NEW FUEL FOUND, DISPLACING COAL.

HYDROGEN HEAT UNITS RELEASED FROM WATER.

(United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.)

(Received September 28, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, September 27.

Walter von Hohenau, a Brazilian scientist, informed the Iriiel Conference that after thirty years’ research he had discovered a method of using water as fuel at a fraction of the cost

of the present fuels, and replacing coal, which henceforth would be useful only for its component chemicals, which hitherto had been wasted.

Mr Hohenau claims the ability, by high frequency electro-magnetic vibrations, to release large volumes of hydrogen from separated oxygen at an expenditure of energy much less than Hydrogen would produce. One horsepower expended by his machine working on low vibrations releases hydrogen generating 265 horsepower in heat units, working at a voltage of from 10 to 26, and producing from 800,000 to 3,000,000 vibrations a second. High alternations would produce 779 horsepower, but he did not recommend it industrially, because an increase much above 5,000,000 decomposes hydrogen and renders water explosive. The plant occupies small space. The existing engine and boiler can be retained owing to its adaptability as a gas burner. Mr Hohepau is-informing the AngloGerman Governipents of his discovery, and will instal a plant gratis, charging consumers half the amount payable for present power costs.—Australian Press Association—United Service.
