CANDIDATES.

GENERAL ELECTION. The date of the general election has not yet been announced, but the general opinion in the Parliamentary lobbies is that it will be held on Wednesday, November 21. This date would not conflict with Carnival Week in Christchurch, and assuming that the session ends in a fortnight, as is considered likely, it would give the candidates sufficient time to conduct their campaigns. Moreover, an election on November 21 would not interfere with Christmas shopping to any extent. Already there are 185 candidates in the field and the parties are busy with the work of selecting others. Probably when nominations close it will be found that over 200 candidates will go to the poll. The following is a list of the candidates who have been announced as definitely in the field. Sitting members are denoted by an asterisk, and exmembers are indicated by a dagger:— BAY OF ISLANDS. *A. Bell (Reform). H. M. Rush worth (Country). A. M. Shugard (Independent Ref.). MARSDEN. W. H.
