The prominent Epsom candidate, Greenline, is an unlikely starter, in which case Toohey will probably receive the mount on the greatly-fancied Sion in the same race. Concentrate has been withdrawn from the Kensington Handicap. The New Zealand trainer, Webster, is booked to return to the Dominion on October 12, with First Acre, Greenfield and Moutoa Wonder. The jockey, N. Percival, has been suspended for a month for careless riding, from last Saturday. He appealed, but the A.J.C. upheld his suspension. He will therefore miss the Randwick carnival.—-Australian Press Association. WANGANUI NOTES. (Special to the “Star.”) WANGANUI, September 27. Lady Desmond was lame when she won at the Manawatu Hunt Club meeting and since then the leg, which has given her trainer anxiety in the past, has filled badly. It is reported from Hawera that the Limond mare has probably run her last race. The appeal lodged by E. H. Keesing, rider of Valkon in the Marangai Handicap, against his disqualification will be heard by the Wanganui District Committee on Tuesday next. H. A JARDEN, HANDICAPPER. Mr H. A. Jarden, of Christchurch, has been appointed handicapper to the Oamaru Trotting Club. Mr Jarden is well known in Canterbury as a sporting journalist. RAND WICK TRACK WORK. No. 1 grass track was available at Ellerslie this morning for the training work and the steeplechase course, including the hill, was also in use. The track was inclined to be on the heavy side, as the result of the large amount of rain that fallen recently, nevertheless the going was much better than was anticipated. There was a fair amount of interesting work, and it was keenly watched by a large number of spectators. The first to work were Thursby and War Officer, who ran six furlongs in lmin 26sec. The pair were on terms at the finish and both went well. Miss Alma was worked over a mile and a quarter, and timed to run the last round in 2min 3 3-ssec, the final six furlongs taking lmin 27 1-osec. Red Lion strode over six furlongs in lmin 28 2-ssec, but could have done a lot better. Catkin trotted round to the six furlong post, and jumping away well ran the first three furlongs in 39 3-ssec, and the full distance in lmin 20 3-ssec. This was a good effort and the Catmint gelding was finishing on well. Sleepy Sol, Restaurant and Doublemint were companions over a round, which they ran in lmin 57 3-ssec, the last six furlongs taking lmin 22 3-ssec. Sleepy Sol got the best of the start and was in front. Valkon was going better than Bert Hinkler at the conclusion of a six-fur-long spin covered in lmin 25 4-ssec. Valkon could have done a lot better. Lucldaine ran the last six of seven furlongs in lmin 29 2-ssec, and Kaiwanga did strong work over five furlongs. Brampton traversed a round in 2min 10 3-ssec, but was not ridden out. Billikins and Whaka King jumped off at the five-furlong post and ran home in lmin 6 2-ssec. It was a useful gallop, with Whaka King on the

outside apparently going the better of the pair. Valsier, who is steadily improving, was given strong work over, six furlongs, but was not timed. Cashier had a bit of pace on when he hopped off at the six-furlong post and ran home in lmin 21 l-ssec. Segment ran six furlongs in lmin 26 l-ssec, but he ran on to the sand at the turn and finished on that track. Sir Archie and Golden Wedding were companions over six furlongs. They covered the first three in 39 2-ssec and the full distance in lmin 20sec. This was the best of the morning and Sir Archie was in front and going well at the finish. Master Lu and Town Teller sprinted home from the half-mile peg in lmin 9 l-ssec. The Lover and Pompeius were worked over a round, Bombarder joining in at the seven-furlong post. They ran the journey in lmin 55 l-ssec, the last mile taking lmin 48 3-ssec.. The Lover went well. Freehold jumped away in front of the five-furlong post and ran his last half-mile in 52 l-ssec.
